A Great Christmas in Oakura

Published January 13, 2014

The Christmas spirit is alive and well in Oakura!

Thanks must go to all the dedicated and hard working locals who made local events in Oakura such a joy – the Christmas carol organisers, the horse riding Christmas elf and Santa and the New Years Day Beach Carnival committee and volunteers.

Carols outside the Carriage in the middle of the village was a wonderful initiative and many locals enjoyed the evening – there’s nothing quite like getting together with your neighbours and friends and having a good old sing song.  The wind was cool that evening but at least we don’t have to bundle up in winter woollies like Northern hemisphere carol singers!

I happened upon a delightful sight of Santa and his elf riding through the village throwing out lollies to very excited children on Christmas Eve – what a nice gesture.

New Years Day Beach Carnival was a great day.  The weather obliged sort of till mid afternoon.  Hundreds of children happily enjoyed the festivities and there was certainly a great range of activities to keep them entertained.  If New Years Eve is about adults having fun then there is no doubt the beach carnival is about children having fun.  Looking forward to next year’s carnival.
