Fabulous Fishing for Oakura Anglers

Published December 02, 2013

At long last the weather is letting us get out for a fish, and from now on through the summer, fishing should be good.

We have been having success catching kawahai from the river mouths as they chase whitebait, three of our members caught 10 kawahai one Sunday morning.

Our club won back the Ali Krutz surfcasting trophy from the New Plymouth surfcasting club on a very windy and wet day in October.

Our next surfcasting challenge is the Wilson Cup in January – another trophy we want back in the trophy cabinet.

Kayak fishing is on the improve and some nice trevally are being caught along with snapper and gurnard – fishing straight out from the port in 20-30 metres is proving to be the best spot so far.

The Kayak Fishing Classic is set for 22/23rd March 2014 and entry forms are on our new website kayakfishingclassic.org.nz. or on taranakikayakfishingclub.co.nz.
