Christmas Carols for Charity in Oakura

Published December 04, 2013

Sunday 22nd December 7.30pm The Carriage lawn.

There is an exciting new community event to put on your pre-Christmas event calendar this year – Oakura getting ready to host its own carol singing event.

Megan Dixon and Belinda Tran-Lawrence recognised the lack of community Christmas events in the village and these bring together all sections of the community.

They decided to start an Oakura tradition of their own, similar to the already established Carols by Candlelight in New Plymouth.

Starting at 7:30pm the night will include live local talent performing both traditional and modern Christmas carols for the people of Oakura to sing along to. This event is aimed at individuals and families of all ages, from age 0 to 100.

There will be food and drink available and also the possibility of some extra entertainment. The aim of holding these carols is to start an ongoing tradition throughout the Oakura community that involves everyone and anyone who wishes to be a part of it. The event is also being used as a fundraiser for an appeal helping out the victims of the Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

Please come along with blankets, a gold coin donation, smiles and your best singing voices and help make it a night to remember.

The ladies are also keen to hear from any local individuals or groups who may interested in providing a short performance in the Christmas theme, or who wish to be involved in some other capacity.

Carols in the Village will be held at 7:30 on Sunday 22nd December on The Carriage Café/The Crafty Fox grass landing if the weather allows – wet weather plans are still to be decided. Keep your eyes open on village noticeboards and Facebook for further developments.
